Our Team Leaders

Thomas Michaels - With a degree in Architecture from Kent State University, Tom is known for his “nuts and bolts” approach to design, bringing the perfect balance of experience and practicality. He has been a successful designer in the Southeast for 20 years, with residential and commercial projects, master planning and PUD documentation. Tom’s clients have included private and public sector projects, providing him with knowledge and experience working with government councils and review boards.

Together David and Tom create world class designs while building a long list of satisfied clients.

David Sklar - David holds a degree in Architecture from University of Tennessee. Known for his innovative design solutions, he has been recognized as a leader in the field of Sustainable Development and Ecotecture. He works internationally on various cutting-edge projects, from residential to resort. He has spoken at the United Nations, New York Academy of Sciences and the World Bank. Sklar is the lead designer of STAR Island Bahamas, the world’s first sustainable island destination.

Mariana Potter - Mari started her partnership with David as Project Coordinator of the STAR Island Bahamas project. She accepted the role of Operations Manager at SM7 Design in 2019.

Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Mari started her career in high-end hospitality operations and international recruiting in South America, working for resorts like Ocean Reef Club, The Homestead and Wintergreen Resort until she fell in love with South Carolina in 2012. She has been enjoying the architecture, natural landscape and amazing food of the Lowcountry ever since.

Teresa McGill - Teresa is an artist from Pickens, SC. She moved to Bluffton in 2019, where she became part of the Art Honors Society at May River High. Teresa graduated in 2020 after participating in art shows and winning awards for her oil painting. She plans on starting college in 2021 to become an Architect.
